Civil Service (Civo) United yesterday edged Karonga United 2-1 at Karonga Stadium to go top of the 16-team TNM Super League table.

Following the win, the Civil Servants, who stand proudly as the only unbeaten side in the top-flight, have 14 points from six matches.

They are tied with second-placed Red Lions, who beat rookies Ekwendeni Hammers 1-0 at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.

It was a fruitful outing to the North for Civo who also beat Chitipa United by the same margin on Saturday.

In yesterday’s match, Civo took the lead through Karonga defender Lusekelo Malema’s own goal, but the hosts pulled level through Anthony Mfune.

Civo captain Raphael Phiri claimed the winner to send the Lilongwe-based side on the driving seat.

The visitors’ assistant coach Eliah Kananji said they are delighted to return to the capital city with maximum points.

He said: “It is not easy to get full points in Karonga, both were tough matches and credit should go to the boys for playing according to instructions.”

Kananji said they will try to maintain the momentum.

“We know it won’t be easy because we are now the team to beat, but we’ll give it our best shot,” he said.

At Mpira Stadium, the league’s leading scorer Royal Bokosi scored the lone goal to take his tally to six and ensure that the Zomba-based Lions had all the three points in the bag.

In other matches, Kasungu-based TN Stars beat Ntopwa FC from Blantyre 2-1 at Kasungu Stadium.

Gift Chunga and China Chirwa were on target for TN Stars while Victor Chirambo scored for Amagheto Kids.

Blue Eagles came from behind to hold Mzuzu Warriors 1-1 through Stuart Mbunge’s strike after Collen Nkhulambe had given the hosts the lead.

Silver Strikers, who went top of the table after handing Mafco FC their first league defeat on Saturday, have dropped to third with 13 points from seven matches.
